Pune: Mukul Madhav Foundation and Finolex Industries jointly held a training program on Mental Health at Symbiosis Distance Learning Center in Pune recently. MMF ventured this program in the year 2014 with an aim to improve the face of Mental Healthcare in India. Team from Concern For Mental Health, UK comes to India every year and conduct workshop to train Primary Health Care Physicians, Psychologists, Nurses, Special Teachers, Health Visitors and other Mental Health Professionals. Eminent speakers from the Concern For Mental Health addressed the mental health professionals. Over 650 trainees have been trained in last five years through this initiative.
The trainees were awarded with certificates on completion which carried 5.5 hours of CME points recognized by the World Psychiatric Association. The speakers included Dr. Ghazala Afzal, Founder Chairperson, Concern for Mental Health and Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist., Dr Milavić, a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital, London and Dr. Ramya Mohan – Frc psychiatrist, visiting consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist, Dr. William Shanahan – Consultant Psychiatrist – Medical Director of the priory Hospital. Dr. Ghazala Afzal Said, “There is a developmental perspective and a good distribution of therapy in Mental Illness. But there are very few child psychologist in India hence we felt the need to bring our learning to enrich the group here in advanced training”.
“This five year partnership has indeed created a movement with the audience to sensitize them on this subject of Mental Health. The training of care givers, nurses, psychiatrist and other professionals in the field of Mental Health can contribute immensely towards the development of patients with problems in Mental Health. We are planning to bring a transformation to the face of Mental Health in India by setting up a forum or platform to address issues in Mental Health.” said Mrs. Ritu Prakash Chhabria, Managing Trustee, Mukul Madhav Foundation.
